Digital Collections
The SJVLS Digital Collections are presented in an Omeka-based platform, providing access to the various public memory projects that are being carried out by our member libraries. Currently the system primarily consists of historical photographs. The project began in 2001 upon obtaining LSTA financing that provided the member libraries with equipment and training that would allow them begin digitizing their historical photograph collections. In turn, many of these libraries partnered with individuals and institutions in their communities who also had valuable historical photos. In 2004 SJVLS began sharing digital images with the Online Archive of California in order to increase access to these valuable collections. This project continues in part through funding that is generously provided by The California State Library. We hope to expand this to include other types of materials such as oral history recordings, videos, letters and much more.
